One Game Dad 3: Cute & Chibi Conflict
Art is no stranger to showing violence or demonstrating conflict. But not all styles suit the realities and consequences of such violence. That and more on this week's episode of One Game Dad.
Today's topic includes exerting extreme violence in Path of Exile, by Grinding Gear Games, my bloody nose from rugby and a discussion of violence, conflict and art displaying it appropriately. Or at least representing it well and all that it means.
In part this comes from my recent thoughts on certain art styles within video games, namely games like Clash of Clans, Fire Emblem or other games that decide to represent violence and war with cute characters. At one point this was limited by hardware, but that's no longer an issue. So I've found myself wondering about the cognitive dissonance surrounding violence in art.
