Freelance Articles & Guides
My work is now available from UKKO.fi. There you’ll find freelancing advice and a guide to working in Finland.
I like to write, I love it in fact. So it’s always nice when someone is willing to pay me to do just that. Which, UKKO.fi have done. You can now find the Freelancer Guide for Immigrants, as well as assorted blog posts in English here.
The guide is useful for anyone considering working in Finland or starting up their own business. I wrote about:
- Requirements for working in Finland,
- What is UKKO.fi and how does it work,
- Finding work in Finland: social media and other methods, and
- How to price your services and make contracts.
This isn’t my first such guide, though it’s the first I’ve written for Finland. To accompany it I’ll be appearing on an upcoming episode of UKKO’s podcast, which is available through Soundcloud.
The blog posts will cover a range of topics for freelancers and entrepreneurs including:
- Getting Started,
- Diversifying Income,
- Taking Meetings,
- Taking Breaks,
- Finding an Office,
- Getting Paid,
- And more.
One nice aspect of this project was the little bit of help I’ve been able to provide to other immigrants who are in a similar situation - trying to get started in Finland. Recent developments from the government mean being a freelancer or light entrepreneur, basically someone with the occasional side gig is becoming more difficult. But at least I’ve answered some of the questions others have.
I just hope the guide remains relevant and up-to-date. I will of course update it as necessary. So in the mean time it’s a matter of hoping the government doesn’t persist with it’s re-categorization of unemployed people so they can say the “unemployment numbers” have dropped. What they need to focus on is job creation.
In the mean time, check out the UKKO blog for more advice or things to consider about working in Finland.
