One Game Dad 18: Bad Baby Habit
No I'm not talking about nun babies or baby nuns. At the very least Bad Baby Habit is the sequel to Machine Gun Nun.
This episode is about teaching or really training babies to adopt new habits and how difficult that is. Especially if you compare it to training another animal. The main difficulty is that positive reinforce through treats or praise isn't all that useful when you're trying to get your kid to sleep.
My daughter, who's nearly a year old now, will not sleep in her crib. She will not go down without a great deal of effort on my part and a whole lot of screaming on hers. It's as if the very thought of being horizontal is an affront to her. This week really hasn't helped given she's been ill and supremely phlegmy.
So there have been days where her naps consist on her laying on my shoulder as I sit on the couch for three hours, because it makes it easier for her to breathe. It's still a change from her needing to me walked to take a nap. But it's a step back from where we were before Christmas - laying her down on the couch. That was just a step away from the crib.
We're now a week away from her starting daycare. And that means regular naps. But it also means she's going to be extra cranky until she gets used to the new routine and can handle taking a nap in a crip, lying down. And all of this with no good way to reinforce this behavior because if we give her a bottle then she develops a need for the bottle to sleep.
Honestly, training a puppy to not pee indoors is easier. And now we also need to add potty training to the routine. January is a month of change, and there's just more to come. That and more of The Witcher 3, which was this week's game, as usual on Twitch, Youtube, Stitcher, iHeartRadio and iTunes.
