A Gospel For A New Generation

A Gospel For A New Generation

They harken, they hanker, they hunger for something deep and resolute. The marrow calls for them. It is why the come here. They journey not knowing what awaits them but sure in their insistence to take another step that what awaits is worth the drive.

I know better.

I am what waits.

I am the arbiter of their bones.

Joshua is not like most. He does not come out of some desire to arrive. Money changes hands, goods are procured and transportation provided. He is one seeking to milk those who would come to me. Not maliciously, but because he knows that for all the pilgrims insistence on seeking solace beyond this universe, they are still bound by the material.

He works the line ferrying and scurrying to meet the needs of those who profess to be beyond such quibbles. Joshua’s work is one of providing comfort but no mercy. The vacuum between does not discriminate yet those who which to reach me must cross the void.

Joshua never does. He skirts it, avoiding me and my own with the disinterest of youth. Were I one to gamble I would have said the odds were in my favor that one day he would cross to my realm out of curiosity. And I would have lost.
