One Game Dad 25: Follow The Girl

One Game Dad 25: Follow The Girl

It's a late episode this week but a brighter one, even with me being sick... again.

It should come as no surprise that a year into my daughter's life I'm still struggling with time management, prioritization, career prospects, being a good partner and father and so much more. All because the Kid is a whirlwind of activity and needs that I can never deny.

Maybe not always to my benefit. The lack of exercise, social interaction and writing doesn't leave me with much in the way of outlets, healthy outlets. And it shows. The Kid going to daycare means she's also bringing home more germs that are attacking my immune system.

It's good for her because she's getting stronger as a result, but I feel weaker. To be ill this often is not fun and it's something we'll be faced with for a while as all of us adjust to the new situation and the new microbiome we're exposed to. It's not the ideal situation for starting a business or getting down to write, but is there ever a good time for such things.

My one saving grace is that given the chance to write I never struggle, these days, to put words to paper. Hemingway said:

There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.

It's hyperbolic and overwrought. If you enjoy writing, if it satisfies some urge within you to create something then, yes maybe there's blood, but it's the blood of creation. It's blood freely given. Blood better given to your own endeavors than that of others who would exploit you.

Funny thing, every time I write these blog posts I'm far more elegant, concise and exercise brevity than I do on the podcast. But that's why I'm a writer and save my best words for the page, not just the ramblings of a self-indulgent production. That said, I did talk about more than just me on this week's episode. I even discussed the design of Assassin's Creed Origins.

This week I continued to play Assassin's Creed Origins. As usual you can find this episode on TwitchYoutubeStitcheriHeartRadio and iTunes. This podcast is hosted by the Third Culture Kids network.
