One Game Dad 28: Folio Frets and Game Ennui
What a weird state to be in when games are leaving me lacking and production is proving more interesting.
Granted work is a priority so playing games has to take a back seat. And I need to get a new folio together. With that comes a matter of prioritizing certain types of projects. This show isn't one of those things.
The Writing Game can and should go in my folio, but it's not what I want to prioritize. Creative writing, game writing, comic books, novels - stories are what I want to focus one. Analysis is interesting and fun but it's not what I want to make a career of.
Stories take time to craft. But to get work I need a folio to show now. So it's a matter of balancing a range of types of work, not just genres, but styles, lengths, topics, mediums. For that I need inspiration... that implies I'm lacking in ideas which I'm not. Rather I need to think through and have some concrete ideas that I can move forward with.
Playing games helps with that. Doing other things than writing helps with idea creation. Sadly I haven't been that interested in the games I have available. In part because they're all so similar and because they aren't telling interesting stories. Or those that do I'm struggling to get into. Basically it sounds like I need to get back to the gym regularly to work through some stuff.
All that said I'm back playing Assassin's Creed Origins. As usual you can find this episode on Twitch, Youtube, Stitcher, iHeartRadio and iTunes. This podcast is hosted by the Third Culture Kids network.
