One Game Dad 36: Anthropomorphized Animals
Children's books and programs are weird. The world building creates a whole slew of unexpected consequences and philosophies.
Case in point, any time animals are people and live people lives they can only mate with other animals of their kind. Thus creating a weird world of genetic purity and/or a caste system keeping the animals divided. Zootopia may be about the animals all living and working together but that doesn't mean they can successfully breed. We don't see weird animal hybrids.... sadly.
I've become slightly obsessed with this idea given the prevalence of such worlds in children's entertainment. Two of the weirdest I've experienced of late because of the Kid are the Richard Scarry books, where there are bears as people but then also bears in the zoo. And the animal people visit the zoo to look at the bears. It's like Victorian era asylums where people could go look at the "oddities".
The other is Peppa Pig, a series that is becoming the bane of my existence as my daughter wants to watch it and little else. The bonus to this is that if I put it on I can get her to sit for a few minutes while I deal with something... like food for her. But this show has both humans, namely Santa Claus and the Queen of England, as well as animal people. I get the feeling that the public was all mutated and only those in power were able to avoid such changes. Yet even in this world not all animals are people only certain mammals.
Yeah... so... that's what I'm rambling about on this episode as well as some news in regards to work. As usual I played Destiny 2. you can find this episode on Twitch, Youtube, Stitcher, iHeartRadio and iTunes. This podcast is hosted by the Third Culture Kids network.
